The Spartan swimming team swept SCVAL finals in all four divisions on Friday, April 25.
Going into the meet, junior Euan Wang identified Cupertino as the team’s biggest threat in the meet.
“They were winning a lot of races, and there were a lot of people that were really fast, but we pulled ahead,” Wang said. “A lot of races were really close, people keeping up neck and neck at the end. I feel like a lot of us pulled forward.”
Athletes said another challenge to was the rain, which fell intermittently all throughout the meet.
“It was really bad because we had to move all of our stuff into the locker rooms, and people were really cold,” freshman Jordan Brickeen said. She said that the cold temperature of the pool made people swim faster.
Brickeen said that her favorite personal moment from the day was placing third in her event.
“I’m pretty happy about that because I was working really hard towards it, and it was a stroke I wasn’t really good at, so I’m happy that I got on the podium,” Brickeen said.
Wang highlighted the efforts of senior Dar Lavrenko for his spectacular performance.
“I feel like he’s the glue that holds our team together, not just because of his times, but also because of what he represents and how much he means to the team,” Wang said.
He also said that there were many Spartan individual swimmers and relay teams from going to CCS.
“I think we had a really good season this year, and I’m really excited to do more of this,” Wang said. “I’m proud of everyone that’s been swimming, and I think we have a really great community here.”
