The girls soccer team beat Palo Alto 2-0 Wednesday, Jan 20, at home.
After the ball went back and forth between the two teams for most of the first half, freshman Olivia Peters kicked in the first goal to break the scoreless board 22 minutes into the game.
At the beginning of the second half, senior center back Sarah Stone blocked Palo Alto’s offense from scoring a goal. Although during the second half Palo Alto remained persistent with their goal attempts, junior goalie Madeline Huang blocked all shots on goal.
The score stayed the same until Peters scored the second goal of the game with 13 minutes left on the clock, ultimately securing their win against the Vikings.
“It was a really, really tight game,” head coach Jeff Panos said. “Once that second goal goes in, the game is over at that point.”
Panos shouted out sophomore Sydney Nachman this game for her fantastic plays against the Palo Alto offense.
“Our player of the game today was probably Sydney Nachman at the left back. I think she was outstanding tonight,” Panos said.
The Spartans are thriving this season with 9-3, Panos felt like the momentum from the win gave them the attitude they need to move forward for the rest of the season.
“Momentum is very contagious in a positive way, and it just builds everybody’s confidence that we can be a lot better.” Panos said.
After having a rough start to the season, losing against both Los Altos and Los Gatos games in a row, the Spartans were able to jump back and get back to back wins against Palo Alto and Homestead, securing their spot to move towards CCS.
“This was a very big win for us,” freshman Lexi Scundi said.
