The boys volleyball team swept the Wilcox High School Chargers 3-0 in a home game Friday, April 18. Sophomore middle August Kopp said that it was a revenge game, after the team had lost to Wilcox in the five sets previously.
“We knew we could beat this team, we just wanted to not repeat mistakes we made last time,” senior outside Evan Madsen said. “We were really focused on passing, making sure that they don’t get any service runs.”
In the first set, Mountain View took the first point, and play was fairly even. After trading points, the score rose to 12-11 in Mountain View’s favor, and the Spartans maintained their lead to win the first set 25-22.
The Chargers started off strong in the second set, building up a small lead. However, the Spartans quickly recovered and maintained their advantage through the second half of the set. Mountain View won the second set 25-22.
Only one set away from the win, Mountain View kept the play strong, and at 24-19 in Mountain View’s favor, senior middle blocker Parker Lunn got the final touch to win the game.
“It’s been great this season because it’s a new sport for me, and all the guys have been supportive of me changing positions,” Lunn said. “To get on the court, and run our offense that we’ve been practicing a whole lot, it was fun, and it’s definitely a new feeling for me which I really enjoy.”
Lunn said that he wanted to shout out everyone, especially head Coach Josh Sullivan, for getting him into the sport after the end of the soccer season. He appreciated his teammates supporting him and offering him advice.
Madsen said that the win was important for the team’s goal of winning leagues, which would result in a free bid to CCS.
“Good job to the boys, everyone played well,” Madsen said. “Let’s just keep that moving.”
