On Thanksgiving morning, MVHS hosted the 16th annual turkey trot, a multitude of running events, from the 5K to the children’s 400-meter dash, that are used to fundraise for MVHS athletics. The biggest run of the event is a 5K run around campus and through the surrounding neighborhoods. The winners of which were J.T. Bard, who finished with a time of 15:28 in the male category, and Melissa Reed, who ran a time of 18:13 in the female category.
Bard, 21, went to Palo Alto High School and currently attends Pitzer College, where he runs collegiate cross country at the Division III level.
“I was coming off a good cross country season at school, and I just wanted to put the fitness to good use,” Bard said.
The female winner of the 5k was Melissa Reed, who graduated from MVHS in 2014. Though primarily a marathoner, having competed in races like the Chicago marathon, Reed enters the trot with her family as a tradition every year.
“I was gonna do this one for fun,” Reed said, “But, it ended up being a pretty good time.”
