In this year’s MVLA Pride Bowl—the annual rivalry game versus Los Altos—on Friday, Nov. 7, MVHS retained the trophy, beating the Eagles 35-7 for the seventh time in a row.
“We were confident that we were going to come out with the win. Just all the work we put in all season to get to this point, even though we had a rough preseason and league,” senior running back and linebacker Sam Ford said.
In the first quarter, MVHS started strong with a touchdown from senior offensive lineman Erick Brito and a blocked punt and return by junior defensive back Jared Paterson to take a 14-0 lead.
The MVHS momentum did not stop in the second quarter, and junior running back Dominik Kristof rushed for two more touchdowns. Despite conceding a touchdown to Los Altos, MVHS entered halftime with a lead of 28-7.
The Spartans began the second half slowly. Neither team was able to gain much momentum for most of the period. Despite this, junior quarterback Ishan Devarapalli threw a 27 yard touchdown pass to senior tight end Lucas Santamaria to extend the lead to 35-7.
The fourth quarter was scoreless for both teams. The game ended with a score of 35-7.
This was MVHS’s final game of the season, ultimately finishing with a record of 3-7.
“Our time goes so fast, and don’t take anything for granted,” junior running back and linebacker Ethan Vo said, “Every single moment you get is valuable, and it’ll be over before you know it.”
