Following a police report tip, MVHS was placed under a shelter-in-place order shortly after lunch today. A ParentSquare message notifying students and families of the precautionary measure was sent at 12:45 p.m.
According to Principal Kip Glazer, School Resource Officer Low contacted the school after receiving a report of a person in a nearby neighborhood who appeared to be holding an object resembling an axe. While there was no immediate threat to campus, the Mountain View Police Department advised the school to keep students and staff indoors as a precaution while officers investigated.
“Please know this is not a lockdown,” Glazer said in the first ParentSquare message sent. “A shelter-in-place simply means that students and staff remain indoors while instruction continues as normal. The police have not confirmed any immediate threat, and this step is being taken purely out of caution.”
During the response, MVPD officers, including Sergeant Powell and Officer Low, were on campus providing real-time updates. Glazer also communicated with district Superintendent Eric Volta to ensure staff remained informed.
At 1:15 p.m., MVPD determined the area was safe and lifted the shelter-in-place order, allowing normal school operations to resume.
