Photo story: Spartans celebrate senior wrestlers at final dual meet

The MVHS wrestling team lost their final dual meet of the season against Fremont High School 57-15, battling hard and finishing with a celebration for their seniors. The team will finish their season competing in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League meet Saturday, and potentially the Central Coast Section meet.

Multiple wrestlers highlighted sophomore Ryan Liu’s performance, specifically his pin on his opponent.

“I think that it was, overall, pretty tough,” Liu said. “There was a lot of hard fighting. I think at some points, he got the better hand of me, but also I feel like in the end, I was able to really crawl back and take the wins.”

Liu complimented Team Captain and senior Nolan Pham.

“I think Nolan’s match was quite good,” Liu said. “It was quite hard fought, and in the end, he was able to win. [The] match was also very entertaining.”

Junior Wesley Chung said that as the team continues into the SCVAL meet, they want to  focus on the smaller details like keeping their heads up and moving their legs around.

After the meet concluded, the Spartans gathered to honor their seniors, giving a short speech and flowers for each one.
