The district experienced a rapid increase in COVID-19 cases following Winter Break, a surge mainly attributed to the highly transmittable Omicron variant. There are currently no plans for a virtual learning environment, but the district has implemented new precautionary measures.
As of Tuesday evening, a total of 90 positive student cases and 19 staff cases were reported, according to the MVLA COVID Designee Team. During this time, the team highly recommends precautions such as the use of masks, being fully vaccinated, and undergoing regular COVID-19 testing.
All students are required to fill out a COVID tracking form daily beginning Monday, Jan. 10 as an added safety measure. QR codes will be posted on classroom and office doors.
Students who test positive for COVID-19 at any time are expected to fill out a student reporting form, email their teachers and the attendance office, and quarantine for 10 days following the day during which they test positive despite the CDC’s national reduction of the quarantine period.
The district is providing free PCR lab tests for all students and staff in partnership with Inspire Diagnostics. Individuals must pre-register, and tests are issued at the District Office (and LAHS and the Adult School) with a turnaround rate of approximately 24–48 hours according to Inspire Diagnostics. Testing centers are open from 7:30 a.m.–4 p.m. on all weekdays.
