Principal Grissom answers Oracles questions

The Oracle sat down with the newly appointed Mountain View High School Principal, Dave Grissom. Read further to find out whether he’s for Peet’s or Starbucks and cats or dogs. Grab a copy of the most recent Oracle for the article and for more information take a look at the press release.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was in third grade.

First job?

I was a vendor at the San Diego stadium during Padre games. You’d get soda all over you. This was before soda was in the bottles, so it had the cellophane top on it.

Funniest situation you’ve ever been in as a principal?

Probably anytime I have to dress up in a rally…Two years ago I had to dress up as an old man in a rocking chair…I don’t like dressing up.

Favorite president?

Abraham Lincoln. I think that he was so forward thinking in regards to civil rights and took over at a time when this country could not be more divided. If the president hadn’t been him, I don’t know that this country would look the way it does.

Have you ever failed a class?

No.

Favorite food?

Tacos. I grew up in San Diego! Although In-n-Out Burger is at the top of my list. There’s a place in San Diego called Roberto’s – they’re everywhere – and I’ve got to eat there every time I’m there.

Coolest place you’ve ever been?

Key West, Florida

Favorite quote?

The only way to be on time is to be early.

Proudest moment?

The two days that my children were born.

Favorite book?

Kane and Abel by Jeffrey Archer

Favorite TV show?

The Following…nine o’clock on Mondays, so I have to get these board meetings over with, huh?

Favorite movie?

That’s so hard…Alright so if I took five movies with me on a deserted island – of course don’t ask me how the electricity gets there or how I get the DVD player there – they would be The Shawshank Redemption, The Sting, Casablanca, When Harry Met Sally, and The Godfather.

Peet’s or Starbucks?

Starbucks. In the summertime, caramel frap, and in the winter time, white chocolate mocha.

Cats or dogs?

Grew up with cats, but now I’m a dog person. And I love my dog, Bebe.

Chocolate or Vanilla?

Vanilla. Actually, you know what my favorite is? White chocolate, which is really vanilla to be perfectly honest.

[Note: He appreciates Lindt white chocolate balls.]

Do you have a Twitter?

Yes, but not for students to follow me! I don’t use it very often. You know what I use it for mostly? To get high school football scores.

[Note: He now follows @mvhs_oracle and @mvhssports]

Mac or PC and why?

Oh that’s an easy one: Mac. My wife works for Apple

Favorite musician?

Jimmy Buffett
