The girls volleyball team lost 1-3 against Los Gatos on Monday, Oct. 14.
In the first set, Los Gatos took a quick lead over the Spartans. MVHS scored three points in a row near the end of the set to make the score 10-20, but the Wildcats secured the last points to win the set.
Head Coach Oscar Figueroa said that the team was going through a low point in the season coming into the game.
In the second set, MVHS earned an early 6-2 lead, but the Wildcats came back to take a four point advantage late in the set. However, that did not stop the Spartans as they were able to tie it up and ultimately win the set 28-26.
“The girls really brought it up,” Figueroa said.
Junior Hazel Nadeau said that the team was low on energy going into the third set, giving the Wildcats an advantage for the rest of the game.
In the third set, Los Gatos took an early eight point lead. The Spartans were unable to muster momentum and ended up dropping the set 9-25.
Going into the fourth set, Figueroa said that he wanted to mix up the line-ups in order to bring renewed energy. Despite these changes, Los Gatos would maintain a lead over the Spartans, and MVHS lost the final set 22-25.
“I think we all put up a good fight,” Nadeau said.
The Spartans are now 2-7 in league play. Their next game is Wednesday, Oct. 16 against Los Altos.
