The MVHS water polo teams battled against Gunn High School on Tuesday, with the girls varsity team winning 9-1 and boys varsity losing 12-3.
This was the girls’ first win in the De Anza league after being promoted due to a successful season last year. Junior Sierra Haik said that team’s defense has improved significantly because of more detailed strategy.
“JV and varsity girls both won,” Haik said. “So it definitely gives us more confidence for the next games.”
The boys fell to 1-5 on the year after their loss. Sophomore Atticus Lott said that it wasn’t until the second half of the game that the Spartans began to adapt to their opponent’s playstyle.
“We’re not working well, but we’ll develop as the season goes on,” Lott said.
