On Wed., March 13, the Spartans lost to the Sequoia High School Ravens 7-4. The day was not without excitement, as the Spartans and Ravens combined for a total of three home runs in the game.
The start of the game looked promising for the Spartans as senior starting pitcher Christian Wenks struck out two batters in his first two innings on the mound.
“I was trying to stay smooth and build up in the first couple innings,” Wenks said.
The Ravens, down 1-0 in the start of the third inning, came out with a bang when they pushed across six runs with as many hits, one of which was a home run. This put the Ravens on top, 6-1.
Sophomore Brennan Dooley put an end to the Ravens offense in the third inning, and would finish the game on the mound for Spartans allowing only one run over four and a third innings, with five strikeouts.
In the sixth inning, senior Liam Barrett launched a ball over the fence, marking his first home run of the season.
“Off the bat I didn’t really even know if it was going out, but I just ran hard and [when] I looked up, it was over the fence and just kept running hard,” Barrett said.
Junior Luke Orrock added an RBI groundout that scored junior Mitchell Garcia in the seventh inning.
“I tried to try to spark up a couple runs for the team, but it wasn’t really enough,” Barrett said.
