The Mountain View boys varsity basketball team played their rivals, Los Altos, last Wednesday the 22nd at 7 PM. MV came into the game having won their last match against LAHS by a single point in a pre-season tournament. This game started off similarly to the last match, with MVHS and LAHS neck and neck for the entire first half, which ended at 21-20 with Los Altos in the lead.
The second half quickly spiraled out of control for the Spartans. Los Altos jumped out to a lead almost instantly with their offense firing on all cylinders. They were almost perfect from behind the arc, helping them expand their lead. Their defense contributed to this offensive barrage as Mountain View struggled to break the full court press. Los Altos was clinical in converting the turnovers from their press into points, increasing the gap further and putting the score out of reach for Mountain View.
Eventually, LAHS expanded their commanding lead to 20 points. Mountain View’s offense was non-existent in the third quarter as they settled for jump shots that just would not fall. However, the offense picked up a bit in the 4th quarter as they took the lead down to thirteen with some good drives and by shooting a high percentage from the stripe. Los Altos hit some late shots near the end to take the lead back to 15 and to finish the game at 53-38.
