On March 14’s CCS Open Division Champions, girls varsity soccer took on varsity baseball in an unprecedented match. The game was coordinated by soccer player Allie Montoya and baseball player Devran Orens. Due to suspended injuries throughout the league season, Montoya, Charis Toney and Elechi Iroaga coached their teammates to success, taking a 1–0 lead at the end of the first half up until the end of the game.

  • Montoya was distressed during the game in response to a missed shot from the other team. Montoya coached the game alongside other teammates. “It was super fun coaching the game; I felt like we were in control of it most of the time,” she said.

  • Midfielder Abby Westcott takes control of the field.

  • Though there was a smaller audience at the game, seniors Haley Garrison, Ella Haney Foulds, Lily Sucherman, and Mira Kaiser came to show their support.

  • Sophomore Karena Shah aims for a corner shot in the first half of the game.

  • Sophomore Liam Barrett, who plays on the boys varsity soccer team, takes a corner kick during the second half of the game.

  • Both teams on their toes in preparation to receive the ball from a corner kick. “The game was super fun, and we were a lot better than I expected,” varsity baseball player Brian Sussman said. “I would say we should have a rematch, but I think the entire baseball team is still tired from the one game.”
