Falling Whistles, a lobby for amity in Congo, is a nonprofit organization created to spread awareness and raise funds for a prominent issue in Congo: the drafting of young boys to the front of military lines. Armed with nothing but a whistle, these Congolese children are forced to fake death or confront it. Their job is to blow whistles to scare the enemy, and, in this process, are used as human shields. Not only does Falling Whistles tell the story of these children and attempt to abolish their hardships, but it also incorporates the voices of people who want to help. Falling Whistles sells whistle necklaces ranging from $34 to $59 for people to wear as “a symbol of protest, a tool to elevate conversation, and a vote for peace in Congo.” 100% of the proceeds go to educating, rehabilitating war-affected children, and campaigning for Congolese peace. Ultimately, Falling Whistles strives to build a global coalition for harmony by working with Congolese leaders in North and South Kivu, as well as working with you.
So join the movement! Buy a whistle to spread the word and support the cause financially. If you can’t afford it, don’t worry; you can still take part in the demonstration. Go to https://www.stayclassy.org/checkout/donation?eid=18451 to donate any amount of money, either once or monthly. Or, visit http://www.untitledthemes.com/fallingwhistles/ to add a small whistle under your follow button on your Tumblr. Any display of support — no matter how small — will make a difference. Together we can unite to transform Congolese children’s only defense into a catalyst for change, for awareness, for peace.
