With the first season of sports coming closer every day, athletes were anxious for a return to sports. However, the season originally set to start on December 14th now seems it will be pushed back.
The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) states
“Due to the continued surge in COVID-19 infections, the California Department of Public Health has postponed the issuance of its updated youth sports guidance.”
Santa Clara County recently was reduced to the purple tier for the Covid-19 thus causing the sports season to now be delayed until January 1st. The (CIF) also hosted a press release where they said:
- Regional/state championships for the season (1) are removed. By canceling Regional and State Championship events, more student-athletes will have the opportunity to participate in a longer season, rather than a truncated season with Regional and State post-season play for a limited number of schools.
- Boys Volleyball is moved to Season (2)
- The revised CIF calendar allows sections and leagues flexibility for return to practice and competition once CDPH (California Department of Public Health) allows such. This will be sometime after January 1, 2021.
- Additionally, our 6 districts of the SCVAL (Santa Clara Valley Athletic League) are in Santa Clara County and Dr. Cody will need to also give us the ok to begin along with our Superintendents.
