MVLA Announces New Mountain View High School Principal |
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – The Mountain View Los Altos High School District (MVLA) will vote on the appointment of Dave Grissom as the new principal of Mountain View High School (MVHS) at the May 28, 2013, regular Board of Education meeting. Keith Moody is moving into the Director of Adult Education position at the end of the school year after a successful ten years as a site administrator. Mr. Grissom has been an educator for 19 years, with the majority of those years in the Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD). He is currently the principal of the over 1,800 student Santa Clara High School that was recently named as a top ten percent high school by U.S. News and World Reports. There will be a reception to welcome Dave to the MVHS community for staff and parents Thursday, May 23 from 3 to 4PM in the MVHS library.
In 2007, Dave was appointed principal of Santa Clara High School after serving for five years as assistant principal at the school. He comes highly recommended and was selected from a wide pool of 51 applicants from throughout the State. The selection committee of 17 included MVLA administrators, teachers, classified staff, parents and students.
Brad Syth, Assistant Superintendent at SCUSD stated, “Dave Grissom exudes commitment, character and has a big picture sense required to be successful in running a large comprehensive high school. Dave brings a wealth of administrative experience and knowledge in secondary education from athletics to discipline to curriculum and instruction. He is recognized by his peers for his expertise in all these areas.”
Superintendent Bobbie Plough of SCUSD added, “Dave brings a breadth and depth of knowledge and experience that is hard to find among secondary educators. First and foremost, he has a sound pedagogical background. Specifically, I offer the example that within a core subject area he has taught courses designed for English Learners, as well as Advanced Placement students. In short, he has a thorough understanding of what it takes to build a strong academic program in a comprehensive high school. In summary, Mr. Grissom is simply one of the best.”
Dave lives with his wife of 19 years Christine, and their two children, Ryan (14) and Connor (10). He states, “I cannot adequately express how thrilled I am to be joining the Mountain View High School community. I have always been extremely impressed with the students and staff that I have come into contact with from Mountain View, and to now be a member of that community is an absolute dream come true. I am truly honored with being named Principal at Mountain View. I look forward to working with the staff and parents to ensure the best education possible for our students.”
