The boys water polo team was defeated 6-15 by Palo Alto on Thursday, Oct. 11. This was the second time these two teams had met, the previous match in September ended in a loss for the Spartans 8-16.
Entering the game, MVHS felt confident they would get a victory.
“I was optimistic that we could have come out with a win,” 4-5 side sophomore Olivier Haik said.
The game began with Palo Alto jumping to an early lead over MVHS. Throughout the game, the Spartans struggled with defense and left openings near their goal allowing the Vikings to score 7 points by halftime.
MVHS continued to have difficulty finding their rhythm into the second half. But, they were able to get 4 points on the board and block some of Palo Alto’s shots. Ultimately, this was not enough and the final score was 6-15.
Despite the loss, there were some positive takeaways from the team
“I think the team stayed consistent between the two quarters. Everyone got to play this game which was nice,” senior captain Soveen Agarwal said.
The Spartans’ next home game is on Thursday, Oct. 23 against Homestead.
“We are continuing to have fun and ultimately, that’s the most important part of the sport,” Agarwal said.
