The MVHS boys water polo team suffered their second loss of the season, 9-12 to Gunn on Thursday, Sept. 11.
“We had a really great game against a team that we usually don’t do well against,” senior co-captain Soveen Agarwal said.
The game was close throughout, with the Titans taking a 5-3 lead over MVHS by the end of the first quarter.
In the second period, the teams went back and forth, ultimately ending with Gunn holding a 7-5 advantage.
Agarwal highlighted the performance of freshman Alton Alapont, who had “a lot of… good goals” in this game.
The second half remained largely the same, with Gunn maintaining most of the offensive momentum. The game ended 12-9 in favor of the Titans. Despite the loss, junior co-captain Atticus Lott felt like the team’s performance was a mixed bag.
“I think we played a really great game offensively,” Lott said. “We could have done a lot better on defense.”
Looking forward, both Agarwal and Lott said that the team still needs to adjust to playing better together as a team, which will put them in a good position for success moving forward.
“We’re doing a lot better than last year, and the future looks pretty good for [MVHS],” Agarwal said.
