The boys volleyball team won 3-1 in a home game against the Gunn High School Titans on Friday, March 21.
The game started out with Gunn scoring the first point, and after trading points to 5-5, MVHS began to take the lead. Though the score remained close, the Spartans won the first set 25-21.
Junior outside hitter Calvin Pereira said that the strategy for the match was to block Gunn’s outside hitter, who he said was their best player. He said his highlight of the game was a back row attack from senior Evan Madsen in the first set.
“It was the juiciest thing I’ve ever seen,” Pereira said. “It was amazing.”
Gunn took the first point of the second set, but MVHS was able to keep a lead that widened towards the end of the set, finishing at 25-19.
“[The] first two sets, we came out strong.” Pereira said. “I was super proud, I was feeling amazing.”
The third set saw Gunn begin to maintain a slight lead. The score rose 10-7, 13-8, 17-10, 21-17, and then 25-20 throughout the set, all in Gunn’s favor.
MVHS comfortably won the next set for the game win – when the Spartans took the first point, they never looked back. The Mountain View lead rose to 10-3, 13-6, 16-8, 20-10, and finally 25-13 to win the final set and seal the victory for MVHS.
“This was a good game in general, and I hope we can keep up this consistent energy and play style, and fight hard for the rest of the season,” freshman middle blocker Colin Ching said.
