“The dominant win indicates a hopeful successful season,” junior Dean Caringella said.
The Spartans came out especially strong in their distance team, as they almost swept the other teams in the 1600 event with junior Ryan Chen finishing first, senior Kiran Haywood in second, and Caringella in fourth.
Chen praised the team on the strong performance they demonstrated, and hoped for a great and improved season as they continue.
The varsity girls 4×1 relay team also performed exceptionally, as they clinched first place after a nail biting finish. Junior Sophia Cieslicki spoke on how their teamwork was the key to their victory.
“Especially during the handoff… our teamwork and chemistry really showed there as we finished first,” Cieslicki said.
MVHS continued their dominance going into the boys varsity 400 meter event as senior Grinell Longstreet and junior Sean Murphy both finished first in both the first and second heats of the race respectively. Both also ran personal bests: Murphy with a time of 55.45 seconds, and Longstreet with 50.69 seconds.
“I’m super happy with this finish,” Murphy said. “I also [ran a personal record] which can only mean that I’m just going to improve as the season goes [on].”
Caringella said that overall no one could have asked for a better start to the season, as the Spartans topped three other schools at the meet.
“[I’m] happy about the win for the team, it’s a pretty dominant win and a great start to the season,” Longstreet said.
