Former San Jose mayor Sam Liccardo is projected to win California’s 16th congressional district with 59.9% of the vote as of Wednesday at 4:47 p.m., according to a call by the Associated Press. AP estimates show that 53% of the total ballots have been counted.
Liccardo will represent residents of California’s 16th congressional district, which covers parts of San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Both Mountain View and Los Altos fall into District 16, and are currently represented by retiring congresswoman Anna Eshoo.
A democrat, Liccardo previously served as mayor of San Jose from 2015 to 2023, when he termed out. He will be sworn into the 119th United States Congress in Washington D.C on Jan. 3, 2025.
