Playing in the third game of their preseason yesterday, the girls varsity soccer team kept their winning ways alive, beating Aptos 2-0. The team, who won CCS last year, has high hopes for the season and has gotten off to a quick start.
The 2-0 win was made possible by the goals scored by sophomore Morgan Mathews and junior Dana Weintraub and the outstanding midfield play of junior Erica Higa, who had both assists yesterday and a total of six assists on the team’s seven goals this season.
Despite the team’s impressive record this season, second-year coach Ivan Bandov has remained strict, demanding the same quality of play he saw in the CCS winning team from last year.
“You know, anytime we get a 2-0 win it’s good, but we struggled to keep possession and create the chances we did last game,” Bandov said.
Yet Bandov remains positive, “It’s early in the season and hopefully when we play San Mateo on Saturday we can improve on those areas.”
The Spartans play San Mateo on Saturday at 2:30 at Burlingame High School.
