After a 5th place finish in league with a 6-8 record and an overall record of 17-16, the Mountain View Spartans earned the 7th seed in Division II CCS playoffs and the right to play at home. On Wednesday, the Spartans took on the Leland Chargers, who came in as the 10th seed with an overall record of 15-15.
Mountain View took a resounding lead in the first set, starting the game with a 7-0 run, led by freshman Chanti Holroyd’s impressive serving. There was no turning back for the Spartans who went on to win the first set 25-13.
The second set began with sloppy play by the Spartans, who fell behind early. Yet, Mountain View kept the set close and the team was able to pull away toward the end and win the set 25-22. You could feel the Chargers losing their composure and ceding the game to the Spartans.
Finally, in the third set the Spartans took control of the game and didn’t give up the lead for the remainder of the night. Easily winning the third set 25-11, it was obvious who the better team was. The team held a confident attitude after the game and had their minds set on their quarter final game.
The Spartans will face the second seed, Presentation High School (21-12) on Saturday at 7.
