Community Breaks World Record with over 1,000 Friendship Bracelets

Earlier today, the Mountain View community came together to break the Guinness World Record for the most friendship bracelets made in the span of 4 hours. The number to beat was 500 bracelets, a goal seemingly large but not too difficult with the hard work of over 100 people. From 12:30 to 4:30 pm, students and families took time out of their day to make as many friendship bracelets as possible in the small gym at MVHS.

In under 2 hours, the community had made over 500 bracelets, breaking the record. With still 2 hours to go, people continued to make bracelets to reach their new goal of 1,400 bracelets. Throughout the day, bracelet-makers would exchange their bracelets for raffle tickets. These tickets were then entered into multiple raffles for gift cards, movie tickets, and best of all, a night in a limo. In the end, it all paid off when the final count was announced: they had made 1,487 bracelets.

All of this would not have been possible if it weren’t for the MVHS Free the Children Club and the Tonge Family, who put together the whole event. The bracelets are going to be sent with the Tonge family on their trip to India, Kenya, and Honduras next semester. During their 5-month-long trip, the Tonges will be visiting orphanages to individually hand out the bracelets to children.

Good job to everyone who participated today, you all worked so hard!
