7 reasons it’s OK to admit you have Bieber Fever

7 reasons its OK to admit you have Bieber Fever

The Youtube record for most views on a video belongs to the same charming Canadian who, although merely eighteen years old, is ranked by Forbes as the third most powerful celebrity in the world. In the rap industry, he is known as “Shawty Mane,” but to the rest of us, he is Justin Bieber or simply “the Biebs.”

Millions of teenagers and adults – the majority of which are male – can’t fathom Bieber Fever or the dedication of his loyal fan base known as the “Belieber Army.” However, if these same people were to disregard Bieber’s cacophonic pop records (you know which ones I’m talking about), they would begin to understand how he came to be an international sensation worth over $112 million dollars. Only by giving the kid a chance can we hope to finally accept him for what he truly is: swaggy.

1. Humorous gaffes

During an interview with David Letterman in June, Bieber revealed his latest tattoo at the time. Letterman expressed his disapproval of the ink and requested that the pop star promise not to turn his arms into the Sistine Chapel. In response, Bieber assured him, “I’m not going for the Sixteenth Chapel.” The teenager did not understand the laughter that ensued and shifted uncomfortably in his seat.

2. Punk’d Taylor Swift
In season nine of the hit MTV show Punk’d, Bieber showcased his pranking talents and punk’d America’s sweetheart Taylor Swift as well as fellow celebrities Miley Cyrus, Rob Dydrek and Sean Kingston. The pranks proved successful as the singer was met with angry reactions from the victims. In a rage, Cyrus chased Bieber across the studio parking lot. It’s safe to say that his reputation as a legendary prankster is still in place.

3. Homies with Barack Obama
Last year, the President and First Lady invited Bieber to sing at the 2011 White House Christmas Dinner. After his performance, he received a standing ovation from the audience and congratulations from the President. Later that night, Bieber took to Twitter to post, “Great night! President Obama is one cool Prez. He told me his [sic] was ‘chillin.’ #PresidentialSWAG.”

4. More Twitter followers than Jesus
Over the past three years, Bieber has amassed nearly twenty-eight million followers on Twitter, making his account the second most followed – after Lady Gaga – in history. Much to the dismay of Democrats and Republicans across the country, he has more followers than Barack Obama and Mitt Romney combined.

5. Swaggy fashion sense

The days of a purple-clad, pullover hoodie, side-swept hairdo Bieber are long gone. Today he is one of the most fashion-forward men in Hollywood. His quiff hairstyle has been replicated by the likes of Zac Efron, David Beckham and Miley Cyrus. In fact, his hair is so popular that a lock of it was sold at an auction in 2011 for a whopping $40,688.

6. Impressive cellphone contacts
Since Bieber’s sudden rise to fame, the sneaky paparazzi have caught the pop star out in Los Angeles with dozens of well known – and often much older – celebrities. The singer has skateboarded with Lil Wayne; grubbed on Chinese food with Usher; hit the studio with Kanye West; wined and dined Selena Gomez; enjoyed a beach date with Kim Kardashian; and cooked noodles with One Direction.

7. Makes charitable use of his success
Whether you love the guy or hate him, you can’t deny that he’s done incredible things for people facing tough circumstances. He avidly supports charities and organizations such as Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, City of Hope, It Gets Better Project, Pencils of Promise and the Red Cross – just to name a few.

In addition, the pop star has organized a number of his own charitable projects. Back in December, he paid a visit to an elementary school in East Nevada where 85% of the students are at-risk or homeless. He entertained the children with a free, private concert, donated $100,000 to the school and bought a present for each student.

The “Boyfriend” singer is also known for flying out fans diagnosed with cancer or other life-threatening illnesses to meet him. One such Belieber was six-year old Avalanna Routh, who suffered from a rare form of cancer called ATRT. Bieber developed a close relationship with Routh and flew her out to see him multiple times. He referred to her good-humoredly as “Mrs. Bieber.” After Bieber received news of Routh’s passing last week, he dedicated the opening concert of his “Believe Tour” in Glendale, Arizona on September 29 to her.

Before reading this article, I was a closeted Justin Bieber fan. How fitting that this article would go online on National Coming Out Day…

I’d like to take this moment to confirm what many of you have been thinking: for as long as I can remember, I’ve loved Justin Bieber, and I’m no longer ashamed to admit it.

Thank you, Negin, for giving me the courage to be honest with the world.
